Hayden Timbers is an intergenerational family-owned company, currently operating a green sawn hardwood sawmill, based on the NSW Mid North Coast. At least 4 generations of the family have been involved in the hardwood timber industry, from forest harvesting to timber processing. For the past 100 years, the family have not only supported the Australian community as a developing nation in its needs for wood products but responsibly managed and contributed to maintaining forest health.
About Us
Our Story

Like many in the timber industry, work interests became a sporting hobby, where woodchopping competitions were keenly attended by many timber cutters and their families. Whilst brothers, Roy and Morris Hayden did well in the woodchopping arena, it was Darrell Hayden that won over 8 World championship titles and represented Australia.
In the late 1800s, the family began working in the Australian hardwood industry in the NSW districts of Mudgee, Oberon and Lithgow. The forestry harvesting experience, skills and knowledge were carefully taught and reinforced from an early age to each generation. The family recognised that timber harvesting was as important as maintaining healthy forests.

In 1997, Darrell and Val Hayden relocated to the Mid North Coast and continued timber harvesting with their son Gary Hayden. An opportunity became available to take over the reins of the old “Gum Scrub” mill a few years later. In 1999, the family established Hayden Timbers Pty Ltd sawmill with a single saw bench operation. The company commissioned a completely new state of the art mill structure on the site in 2004, incorporating modern technology, which became operative in 2006.

The mill has continued to operate successfully as demand for quality hardwood products, both domestically and internationally have increased. The company has continued to invest in mill equipment to maintain modernisation of its plant and support equipment. These improvements have resulted in quality, production efficiency and safety, as well as expansion of its workforce.
Darrell sadly passed away in Nov 2021 and the business continues under the direction of his daughter Katrina, with the assistance of a highly qualified and experienced management team.
